Program

Day 1 - Departure
Flight to Astana, capital in Kazakhstan.
Arriving early in the morning (Day 2)

Day 2 Early onward domestic flight to Ust Kamenogorsk (UKK) ~1.5hrs flight (the flight is normally with a departure around 12:00h) and a very good airline (Astana Air)
From Ust Kamenogorsk mini bus to our destinaion ~2.5hrs
Dinner and overnight at guesthouse
Day 3-7 5 days of full on ski-touring
Dinner and overnight in guesthouses. During the days we will seek the best possible areas with tree line skiing
Day 8-9 The last 2 days we ski in the area of Ridder. An old mine town with a lot of history. Where the plan is to do 2 days of cat skiing

Day 10 Flight from Ust Kamenogorsk to Astana
Day 11 flight back home

Summer 2026 - 4 days of rock climbing with a focus on long routes, "multi-pitch"

2:1 ratio maximum

We stay in a guesthouse or hotel with Chamonix as a starting point. We do day trips from CHX or we go to a suitable area in Switzerland or Italy. You should be able to follow grades up to 6a and we climb rocks that only require simple approaches without touching glaciers.

Our "new" climate means that climbing in areas that hold glaciers is becoming increasingly dangerous, with complicated terrain over the glaciers and more and more falls from cliffs and rocks. This has driven me to increasingly refrain from climbing in areas that contain such elements where the glaciers melt away and the permafrost is breaking out of the rock. Instead, I am extending the season towards the latter part of autumn. Nowadays, during September and October/November, conditions are often better with cooler temperatures, more stable rock and fewer people.
